To keep your ears open means to listen attentively for useful information. For example, an alumni might say to an eager 2nd year job seeker, “Unfortunately, we’re not hiring right now, but I’ll keep my ears open for any opportunities over the next couple of months. If I hear of anything, I’ll let you know.”
