Words of the Week – bandwidth

Bandwidth is a new buzzword adopted (adapted) from the technology world. In business, bandwidth is used to describe an individual or group’s capacity to take on more work.

In my current Marketing role, I work on a small team of two. We’re launching new products, developing innovative campaigns to support existing business and managing day to day tasks like forecasting sales and balancing the budget. I was inspired to write this edition of WOW when a business partner emailed me with a new opportunity to introduce consumers to our products. Overloaded with tasks already, I had to respond, “Thanks for the great idea. While my team doesn’t have the bandwidth to lead this effort right now, we’d be happy to support the initiative with samples. Just let me know where to send them, and I’ll make it happen.”
